Nelson University's outfielder
Andrew Ortiz continues to impress beyond the collegiate diamond, earning a prestigious 2025 Coastal Plain League (CPL) All-Star selection while competing with the Lexington County Blowfish.
Ortiz, who was named a First Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) performer this past spring, brought his hot bat and defensive savvy to one of the country's top summer collegiate leagues. Through 21 games with the Blowfish, Ortiz tallied 84 at-bats and consistently produced for a team that plays in a league highly regarded by Baseball America and Perfect Game for its competitive atmosphere and player development opportunities.
Known for his smooth left-handed swing, Ortiz registered multi-hit games against premier CPL programs like the Macon Bacon and Florence Flamingos. His timely hits and plate discipline including clutch RBI efforts and run-scoring performances have been pivotal in the Blowfish's midseason surge.
The CPL All-Star nod is a significant milestone for Ortiz, who now adds summer league national recognition to his resume. Competing in a wooden-bat league that mirrors the conditions of minor league baseball, Ortiz has shown he can thrive under pressure while showcasing tools that translate to the next level.
With his senior season at Nelson approaching, Ortiz's momentum and experience gained this summer set the stage for another drippy campaign in Waxahachie.
