Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions Women's Soccer team will launch the 2025 campaign at home on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 6:00 PM, squaring off against Arlington Baptist University at the Lions Athletic Complex. The Lady Lions closed out the 2024 season with a strong showing in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), earning a 5th-place regular season finish and advancing to the Quarterfinals of the SAC Championship as the No. 5 seed.
Off the field, Nelson excelled in the classroom with 7 players achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA, 13 players recording a 3.5+ GPA, and 3 players earning a 3.0+ GPA. On the pitch, the Lady Lions were an offensive force, scoring 49 total goals—an average of 2.58 goals per game. Their efforts were recognized with two All-Conference selections in the 2024 SAC Women's Soccer honors.

Nelson was placed 5th in the 2025 SAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, the same spot as their finish in 2024. The Lady Lions will aim to rise above preseason expectations and make a deeper run in the postseason.
Key Returners

Stephanie Hernandez – Scored 8 goals with 6 assists last year. One of the league's top scorers, Hernandez has been a consistent offensive threat in her freshman and sophomore seasons and looks to electrify the attack entering her junior campaign.

Daisy Altamirano – Recorded 9 goals and 8 assists. A Second-Team All-Conference midfielder, Altamirano's tireless work rate and playmaking ability brought stability and creativity to the midfield.

New Additions

Anna Stovall – Freshman midfielder from Athens, TX (Athens High School).

Daisy Ruiz – Freshman attacker from Saginaw, TX (Saginaw High School).

Savannah David – Sophomore transfer midfielder from Dallas, TX (Richland College).
These newcomers are expected to reinforce Nelson's midfield and attack, adding depth and energy to an already balanced roster.
