Waxahachie, Texas | December 1, 2025 – Nelson University forward Jesse Iweze has once again stamped his name among the elite defenders in the Sooner Athletic Conference, earning this week's SAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honor, his third consecutive selection, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.
And the timing couldn't have been more fitting.
Rivalry games are supposed to rattle the walls.
Monday night inside the Sheaffer Center, they practically shook.
In a high-octane, emotional, back-and-forth SAC showdown, the No. 20 Nelson University Lions erased a 15-point first-half deficit and surged past RV Texas Wesleyan, 88–83, behind poise and a wave of breakout performances.
Lions. Rams. Fireworks.
And when the game tightened, Nelson's rising stars and battle-tested veterans answered the call.
On the defensive end, the reigning back-to-back SAC Defensive Player of the Week now the three-peat winner Jesse Iweze made the gym shake.
Six blocks.
Six momentum-shifting, rim-protecting, energy-injecting denials at the summit.
Every swat reset the pulse of the arena, igniting scoring runs and fueling the Lions' comeback effort. Iweze also added 10 points and 8 rebounds, filling the stat sheet while anchoring Nelson's late-game toughness on both ends.
Iweze's third straight conference honor places him among the top defensive presences in the region and solidifies his standing as one of the most impactful rim protectors in the SAC.
Nelson University celebrates another milestone week for a player whose intensity, discipline, and relentless energy continue to elevate the Lions.
