Oklahoma City, Okla. — Nelson University's Montrell Blacknall has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning. Blacknall stood out among a competitive field of nominees—including top performers from Langston, Wayland Baptist, Science & Arts, and UNT Dallas—thanks to a dominant all-around showing at the SAC Championship Meet in Fort Worth. The Lion earned Most Outstanding Athlete of the Meet for the third consecutive year, compiling a remarkable 42 total points for Nelson. His performances helped power the Lions to the most combined points across both the men's and women's divisions.
Championship Highlights:
- 1st – Decathlon | 5780 points
- 1st – Pole Vault | 4.51 meters
- 3rd – High Jump | 1.94 meters
His ability to compete and place across multiple events continues to set the standard in the SAC, and his contributions were vital to Nelson University's historic weekend. Blacknall was selected over a talented group of athletes including Marques Cameron (Langston), Matthew Gordon (Wayland Baptist), Andries Meyer (Science & Arts), and Markevian White (UNT Dallas). With his latest honor, Blacknall reaffirms his place among the premier multi-event athletes in the NAIA and continues to embody what it means to be a Lion. #WhereLionsFindTheirRoar
